President Muhammadu Buhari and the state governors have agreed that ranches should be established to tackle farmers/herdsmen clashes instead of
grazing reserves,
“The President and governors agreed that there would be no grazing areas; ranches would be established by government where the cattle would be kept in one place and fed. Government will provide facilities like medical, schools and other needs in the ranches,” Lalong. (The Governor of plateau State).
He also said the ranches would not be for Fulani herdsmen alone but for whoever reared cattle, and to that effect, President Muhammadu Buhari received an audience of briefing from the Global CEO Friesland Campina Netherlands (Makers of Peak Milk) Mr Roelof Joosten and the Chairman Friesland Campina Wamco Nigeria Mr Jacobs Moyo Ajekigbe, as Mr President aims to use the ranches created to boost the country's milk and dairy production prowess. With this new development, the cattle and their owners would be fed and kept to ensure top notch dairy production.
Ranches are expected to be set up all over Nigeria and are to be managed by these experts.
