From the Oxford advanced learners dictionary, A genius is said to be a person of exceptional, intellectual and creative power, or other natural ability. It also goes on to say that a genius is one with exceptional skill in a particular area of activity. Now the key words are Exceptional, Intellectual, Skill and Creative power.
So for the purpose of this article, we are going to break down these key words
and off course tune you into what it takes to be a genius.

Number 1
Think Exceptional: This means uncommon, abnormal, out of the ordinary, the ability to surprise, rare , singular, unprecedented, unexpected. This is the first quality of somebody who is considered a genius. Knowing that in a crumpled up situation, he or she knows there is another way and he/she goes ahead to find it. Some of you might say i'm in school, in a higher institution, how does it apply to me? Some of you may have been in classes where you as a student is expected to think independently, especially in law where a particular case is approached from different angles. The person that provides an alternative to handle a criminal case in a classroom will be appreciated in that particular field. This also applies to exams and examiners. In as much as lecturers love to see their definitions, they also want to see that you understand the course, why not accompany the lecturers definition with a line of what you understood from it in your own words.

Number 2
Intellectual: This means a person's ability to grasp information quickly and easily. Statistically, not all humans posses the ability to be intellectual but you should learn to make up for it with rapid writing skills. Use and learn shorthand if possible, so that you can grasp every word a particular teacher is saying. So that when reviewing your jots or scribbles, you will be able to streamline them with your thoughts and fill up the gaps left by not being able to grasp the entire speech or thoughts of a speaker.

Number 3
Skill: From the moment we were born. we start to develop a skill, even if we don't want to, our brain rapidly adapts to our routines from the first time a child uses a toilet seat till the day he learn how to drive a car backwards, everything is built on practice, and with great practice comes great skill. I remember a speech a professor gave in one of his classes as to when growing up, his friends and neighbours thought he was dumb and he did not grasp the mathematical language very well. He said he decided one day that he will devote his time to breaking down mathematics into tiny bits and building it back together in a way that only him could understand and today, he is a professor of mathematics. So figure out want you want and be skilled in it.

Number 4
Creative Power: There are two parts to our creativity. One is our creative power. The other is our creative ability. Creative ability is different than creative power. The two are integrally linked and often seem inseparable but they are different.
Power is energy expended over time. Creative power is about having the ability and power to manifest a creative idea. It is to  make something happen or to cause an effect over a period of time and/or how fast or slow it happens. In particular it is about the power to cause something to come into existence which did not previously exist or is significantly different from the past in a fast of slow way and to sustain that creation. Its also about taking something that has already existed before but adding a "wow" factor to it.

Number 5
Reading Wide and General Knowledge: "The pursuit of knowledge is never ending, the day you stop seeking knowledge is the day you stop growing" Brandon Travis Ciaccio. "Everyone you would ever meet knows something you don't ." Bill Nye. So no knowledge is a waste, you just might meet the girl of your dreams just because you read the last page of a book. Watch YouTube videos, get updated etc. You may never know when you might need that particular insight.
